GREETINGS from Aspen! We are gearing up for ski season: the peaks are covered in snow, days are getting shorter, and the air is crisp. This time of year our dreams turn to western slope champagne powder. Hope your fall is going well and that Halloween was spooky-scarey!

THIS WEEK : COP26 and Aspen
Aspen has a rich history and track record pioneering climate sustainability programs. ***In Glasgow this week with world leaders is Aspen's own JACQUELINE FRANCIS, founder and director of the nonprofit Global Warming Mitigation Project. Francis said It’s “crunch time” on the climate issue. The Project also awrds :
The Keeling
Curve Prize
...charged to locate and fund the best climate solutions the world has to offer.
***applications now being accepted for $25k prizes.
Those expected to accompany Francis at COP26 as delegates are: Kris Rettig, owner of the Monarch Street business Suitable for Framing; Andrei Ruckenstein, former board president of the Aspen Center for Physics; Rocky Dawuni, a Grammy-nominated musician from Ghana; part-time Aspen resident Eric Ringsby; environmental attorney David Bookbinder; artist and writer Paul Miller (aka “DJ Spooky”); philanthropist Peter Bokor; and Page Atcheson, development director for the Global Warming Mitigation Project.
RESTAURANT UPDATES
RIP:
Aspen mourns the passing of these titans... IT HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL RUN for each. I have NO WORDS to express my personal sorrow. I speek collectively saying as a community we are full of apprciation for the countless memories this past quarter century or more!
- L'HOSTERIA: closing its doors on November 5, 2021 after 25 years. Heart breaking.
- JIMMY's: icymi (in case you missed it)... Jimmy's closed in September 2021 after another quater centrury run (well 24 years but who's counting) . Sending best wishes to Jimmy Yaeger and crew.
- PINON's. icymi, Rob Mobilian and crew have closed Pinons this summer after 33, yes THIRTY THREE years.
NEW or opening SOON:
CHICA: in the Residences at The Little Nell. FYI one condition of the city's approval of the development in 2004 required that the developers have a restaurant, bar and outdoor dining open whenever the gondola is running for the season — winter and summer. Not always easy (eg: IL MULINO, 2004, in that space, remember? )
Catch STEAK : in the Scarlett's space above the new BALLENCIAGA. Entrance on Hopkins.
CASA D'ANGELO. Their forte is old world Italian cuisine. I had a couple fabulous meals here, albeit $$$. They've transformed the previous Pinons space.
NEXT FOR JIMMY'S? The replacement to Jimmy's space on Hopkins will be a Mexican concept by MML Hospitality, the same group that opened Clarks in the Little Annie's space on Hyman.
HOPE TO KEEP: I for one am praying that longtime eateries The Wild Fig, Campo de Fiori, Cache Cache, Steak House 316, Brunoleschskis, The Monarch, Matsu, Kenichi , and the myriad of newer spots will keep serving. Given the rough Covid times, we will see.... But thanks to Robin & Kenny Smith's RESTAURANT RELIEF program during Covd, the community rallied to help. See more detail below...

LOCAL COLOR
WHAT MAKES ASPEN SO SPECIAL? In addition to the amazing wilflife (like these moose strolling on the 18th green) , It's the people:
(CLICK ON UNDERLINED HOT LINKS BELOW FOR ARTICLES)
-- 9/11 SURVIVORS feted Aspenite BOB HURST. Aspen resident to be honored for assistance to 9/11 families, survivors. Bob formerly commented in Aspen Peak about he and wife, Soledad Hurst (whose credits will fill another post) : “We have made a conscious decision to get involved with this community” ....“That’s our focus moving forward. We want to get involved. We want to make a difference.” Walk around town and you will see that indeed they have!
--RESTAURANT RELIEF : more applause for MERIDIAN JEWELER's Robin and Kenny Smith and their restaurant relief program which opened the flood gates of local support. Campo de Fiori's owner Elizabeth Plotke remarked “...we live in the best community... and this outpouring just reinforces what we all know every single day of our lives, that we live in this unbelievable community.”
--COP26: Aspen's own JACQUELINE FRANCIS, Aspen High School graduate in 1982, and founder of the Keeling Curve Prize and founder and director of the Global Warming Mitigation Project (SEE ABOVE).

The Aspen/Snowmass and Roaring Fork Valley REAL ESTATE MARKET continues to be UNPRECENDENTED as Buyers realize they can work remotely, that our schools offer strong academics, and that the unique ammenities of the valley attract full-time residents.
Properties are selling quickly, with Sellers often getting full asking price when their properties are well-priced. EG: my recent North of Nell listing, above, sold for $3,805 per square foot, which was a record for the condo/hotel property. The final price was $105,000 over the original asking price of $4.99m.

***How may I help you and/or friends with selling, buying or renting property? For owners, the question is "at what price would you sell?" That said, there are still values.
