PlanningWhat is the biggest gala in Aspen?
By dollars raised in a single day, the Summer Polo Charity Classic at Aspen Valley Polo Club has topped $1M in one afternoon. For prestige and scale, ArtCrush at the Aspen Art Museum is the season's centerpiece, now in its 21st year.
The big onesWhen is ArtCrush 2026, and where?
Friday, July 31, 2026, at the base of Buttermilk Mountain — not the museum. It honors Adrian Villar Rojas with the Lewis Family Art Award and sits inside Intersect Aspen (Jul 28 to Aug 1).
Good to knowWhy is Anderson Ranch a big deal in 2026?
It is the Ranch's 60th-anniversary season (founded 1966). Two events fall days apart: the black-tie Ranch Gala on Jul 15, with honoree Marilyn Minter, and the FREE Ranch Picnic & Silent Auction on Jul 18, with 130-plus works and family programming.
AboutAre any of these events free?
Yes. The Anderson Ranch Picnic & Silent Auction on Jul 18 is free and open to the public, registration appreciated. It is the best free thing on the summer calendar — live music, kids' art, lunch, and serious contemporary work on the block.
PlanningI am planning a wedding or party. What dates should I avoid?
Pick your date against this calendar. Jul 15 to 18 stacks three events in four days; Jul 28 to Aug 3 is art week; Dec 30 is the Audi Ajax Cup. On a gala night every florist, caterer, valet, tent, and good table is committed, and half your guest list is elsewhere.
The big onesWhat is the Audi Ajax Cup?
AVSC's largest fundraiser, north of $1M a year, on Dec 30. Sixteen teams race dual giant slalom with pros on Aspen Mountain for the Gorsuch Cup. It is the busiest social night of winter.
Good to knowWhat is the Aspen Snow Ball, and who does it benefit?
Winter's marquee black-tie night, held at The St. Regis. It is NOT a hospital event: it benefits the Children's Oncology Support Fund and Children's Hospital Colorado for pediatric cancer research. The Jay Leno-hosted 2025 edition raised $3.5M.
AboutWhat happened to the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet gala?
The company stopped performing, and DanceAspen inherited the summer dance season. DanceAspen's Studio 54 gala on Jul 17 at Hotel Jerome is now the valley's resident dance benefit.
PlanningWhen is X Games Aspen?
Late January at Buttermilk, in its 26th consecutive year. The exact 2027 dates were not published at the time of writing, but the whole late-January calendar orbits it.
The big onesWhat is special about Aspen Gay Ski Week in 2027?
It marks its 50th anniversary, Jan 17 to 24, 2027 — the oldest gay ski week in the world. The Golden Jubilee: Legacy & Honors event falls on Jan 19.
Good to knowHow do I get into the Summer Polo Charity Classic?
It is invitation-tight, with VIP attendance capped around 250, and the 2026 date was not yet published. To ask about access, call Wendy Frohlich at Aspen Valley Health Foundation, 970.544.1126.
AboutWho curates this list?
Susan Plummer, a Christie's Realtor and a longtime Aspen local since 1989. It is independently curated, with no paid placements — just local knowledge of the benefit season.
The Scheduling Math
Hosting a wedding or a party? Pick your date against this calendar. On a gala night every florist, caterer, valet, tent, and good table is committed — and half your guest list is already elsewhere.
- Jul 15-18: Ranch Gala (Wed, the 60th) + DanceAspen (Fri) + Ranch Picnic (Sat) — three events, four days, one costume brief, one free.
- Jul 28-Aug 3: art week. ArtCrush (Jul 31) and the AMFS Benefit (Aug 3) bookend Intersect Aspen and the After Party.
- Dec 30: Audi Ajax Cup — the busiest social night of winter.
- Wild cards still unpublished: Summer Polo Classic and the Aspen Institute Summer Celebration.
- Also unpublished for 2026-27: ACES, Aspen Film, and the Aspen Historical Society.
Memory Lane
Galas that no longer exist — the ones locals still bring up.
Howl at the Moon
The Aspen Art Museum's summer benefit at Gitalong Ranch, Woody Creek, before ArtCrush existed.
Les Dames d'Aspen
The New Year's Eve Gala. Roughly $4.7M given over the org's life to valley arts, scholarships, and children's programs. The NYE gala is retired; it now runs a winter luncheon and a summer gala dinner dance.
Dancing with the (Aspen) Stars
Aspen Santa Fe Ballet's signature fundraiser for 11 years, pairing company dancers with non-dancing locals (Sheriff Joe DiSalvo in 2016). More than 300 guests, $500K+ raised; it went virtual in COVID as Dancing with Our Stars before the company stopped performing and DanceAspen inherited the season.
The Sneaker Ball
Black tie from the ankles up, sneakers below. Aspen Al Gross threw the infamous BALL for 20 years. Drop me a line if you have more intel I can share.
What am I forgetting?
Send me the Aspen party you still talk about — and I'll add you to the list for next season's gala dates.
